Okay, sure, it’s not as catchy, but the simple truth is that when you eat right, your skin will love you—and everyone else, in turn, will love your skin. Taylor, MD, FAAD, and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, said recently to the American Academy of Dermatology, “While there’s no mistaking how our diet affects our overall health, we’re just beginning to understand how certain foods—or lack thereof—can impact our skin’s health.” So, before you invest in lotions and creams, make sure the following items are on your grocery list.

Shakeology claims to be a Healthy Meal Replacement. The shake claims to help with a nutrition dose of 70 ingredients and 23 vitamins and minerals (more on that here). But, what about the Shakeology Ingredients? After all, this is more than just a “protein shake”. On this page we will take a microscopic look at all of the Shakeology Ingredients listed on the bag, and examine what they do for you (good OR bad).

For starters, here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to understanding the Shakeology Ingredients:

Romaine lettuce is a fantastic leafy green that contains all 8 of the essential amino acids. It is also high in omega-3, calcium, and iron and has more vitamin C than an orange. Its antispasmodic properties aid the cardiovascular system and the digestive tract. Romaine lettuce contains sedative compounds that relax the nerves and calm the body. It can help prevent nightmares and provide support for a good nights sleep. Romaine is an excellent addition to smoothies. Blend a head of romaine with two oranges, this has more calcium than a glass of milk. Walnuts are particularly beneficial for cognitive health and are generally regarded as an excellent “brain food”. Walnuts can also calm the nervous system and increase your sense of well being and peace. They are known to satiate the appetite as well as aid in long term weight loss. Walnuts are high in vitamin E which helps to keeps cells protected from free radical damage. Walnuts are also very important for the neurological and circulatory systems and can help to benefit neuropathy, cerebral palsy, dementia, raynaud’s disease, and atherosclerosis. Walnut oil is a wonderful moisturizer for the skin and is regularly used in skin care products for its healing and protective benefits. Try mashing a few ripe bananas and sprinkling chopped walnuts on top for a energy and brain boosting breakfast. Only a handful of walnuts a day are needed to receive their powerful health benefits.

I hear it all the time “But Rebecca, eating healthy is expensive.” Or, “I can’t afford shakeology.” Well, all I know is, there have been meal replacement shakes for decades but Shakeology supports body in a completely different and sophisticated way. Craving mousse but not the fat and calories? Try this banana mousse sweetened with honey.

Yield: 4 servings

2 Tbsp. low-fat milk
1 Tbsp. raw honey
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1¼ medium banana, sliced, reserve 8 slices for garnish
1 cup low-fat plain yogurt
4 fresh mint leaves (for garnish; optional)

1. Place milk, honey, extract, and banana in blender. Cover; blend until smooth.
2. Place milk mixture in a medium bowl. Fold in yogurt; mix well. Cover.
3. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 45 minutes.

Here are a few of my favorites:1⃣Recipe – 1/2 inch ginger root, 1 whole apple, 3 carrots

2⃣Recipe – 1 inch ginger root, 1/2 pineapple (without skin)

3⃣Recipe – 1 cup raspberries, 1/2 c. grapefruit, 1/2 small beet

You don’t have to buy an expensive juicer to juice fruits and vegetables. You can purchase a mesh cloth strainer and strain the fruits and vegetables after juicing.

✴️ Let me tell you, this life is easy. Being Fit & Eating Clean has actually made my life easier!

I’m passionate about being Fit & Eating Clean because I believe in it as a lifestyle. It lets me live my 80/20 rule – 80% clean eats and sweaty workouts and 20% care-free fun! Being Fit & Clean means I can have it all. I work hard at the gym and eat clean so that I can enjoy my favorite not-clean food (and wine!) without guilt.

Water can get ridiculously boring so jazz it up! I present to you 4 ways to jazz up your water and keep hydrated!

1⃣Citrus Oranges,Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit are some of the fruits that fall into this category. 1939825_235133813345133_907570810_n

2⃣Berries Berries such as Strawberries or Blueberries can easily be squashed into water and because their taste is so distinct you’ll notice it.

3⃣Juice Cubes Like iced water? Instead of using regular ice cubes freeze your favorite juice in ice cube trays.

4⃣Sugar Free Drink Mixes I kept this suggestion near the end of the list because it’s what people think of first. Crystal Light, Mio, and True Citrus are some varieties of sugar free drink mixes. You can even try the grocery store brand variety. They’re all mighty tasty.
